Ceramic Cane Tips

Hi everyone, I remember seeing, at a convention a few years ago, some ceramic versions of the metal cane tips that we so often use. They might have been made by Chris Park, but I'm not sure. I haven't seen them since then, but I'd like to be somewhat knowledgeable about them. Does anyone here know why we haven't adopted those tips? Are they too heavy? Do they scratch floors? Do they crack? DARE TO BE REMARKABLE: Pathways Towards Structured Discovery - Call for Presentations DARE TO BE REMARKABLE is a three-day national training conference for education and rehabilitation professionals who work with blind transition-aged students or adults. Date & Location This conference will be hosted live via the Zoom conference platform through the National Federation of the Blind Jernigan Institute When: Tuesday, December 15 - Thursday, December 17 Time: 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time Call for Presentations We invite you to submit a proposal to present at this conference during one of the concurrent breakout sessions scheduled on the afternoon of December 15, 16, and 17. Abstracts should be submitted on one of the following conference themes or another closely related track: . Structured Discovery methods and principles across the lifespan. . Agency-wide philosophy and culture on blindness. . Educational technologies, policies, and practices for teachers of blind students. . Rehabilitation methods, principles, and policies that effect instructors and administrators. . Teaching Structured Discovery methods and techniques in core subject areas (Cane Travel, Braille, etc.). . Successful transition from education to rehabilitation. . Best, Stacie Dear NFB community members, Our research team, led by Professor Niklas Elmqvist at University of Maryland, College Park, aims to improve information accessibility for blind individuals through design and evaluation of interactive systems that represent data in the form of sound. We are designing an interactive tool to support data analysis using sound. We are interested in insights from Orientation and Mobility (O&M) training that we may effectively use in our design process. We are recruiting blind professional Orientation and Mobility experts as participants in this research. You also need to be 18 years of age or older. We are interested in your instructional background, specifically your training of blind individuals, how blind individuals rely on sound for creating mental maps of the environment, and how blind individuals use auditory interfaces in activities of daily living. The interview will in total take approximately 60 minutes. The entire interview will be audio recorded. No personal data will be collected (other than for tax purposes) and all data will be anonymized. Participants will be paid a $100 Amazon Gift Card for their time and efforts. Greetings fellow Cane travel teachers, I am considering going back to school and thinking about getting certified as a rehabilitation counselor. like most of you, I have a masters degree from Louisiana Tech University and I wondered if any of you could suggest a good school where I could study just for the certification without having to get a whole new masters degree.
