Cane Walk 2024

Hello NOMCs, Hope everyone is having a great start to 2024! Is anyone thinking about summer yet? With the warmer winter here in Minnesota, it definitely feels like Spring! Anyways, I hope many of you are planning to attend our NFB National Convention in Orlando, FL. If so, please take some time to participate in our Cane Walk. It is definitely one of the highlights of my week! What is the Cane Walk? The Cane Walk is put on by the National Organization Parents of Blind Children (NOPBC). It is an opportunity for parents or family members of blind children to learn about cane travel. They will receive a teaching cane, learning shades, and a lesson with a NOMC. Hello Everyone, Last evening we had our check in discussion, which covered the use of technology and other things of interest. One thing that I found very interesting was Quin's discussion of hearing aids, and the new type he is using. Quin, or Kristen, could one of you please send out a paragraph or so on these hearing aids, explaining how they work, and share the name an contact information for the Audiologist that you mentioned that knows how to set them up for blind individuals with hearing loss? I would really appreciate having this information, and I think those that were not able to join us would find this helpful for their travel students that are struggling with their hearing loss. The 2024 Cane Walk

Hello Everyone, It is time again to begin preparing for the 2024 NFB National Convention, and for our annual Cane Walk. There are going to be some changes beginning this year, that I wanted each of you to be aware of, that involve those that will be planning and organizing the event. I am moving toward retirement in approximately a year and a half, if everything goes right, and I want the Cane Walk to continue to be an important part of the convention, and also for the families of Parents of Blind Children Division. This year, Carley Mullen, Michell Gip, and Jimmy Morris will be assisting me with planning and organizing the Cane Walk, along with the very important assistance from Carol Castellano and the members of the Parents' Division. So, please be watching for an e-mail from Michell regarding your opportunity to participate in this year's Cane Walk. I will still be involved in the Cane Walk, although over the next few years, I hope to transition this event over to the next generation of O&M's.
