Save the Date National Federation of the Blind Jernigan Institute DARE TO BE REMARKABLE: Pathways toward Structured Discovery A three-day national training conference for education and rehabilitation professionals who work with blind transition-age students and adults When: Tuesday, December 15 - Thursday, December 17 Time: 11:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time Where: Live via Zoom * Please see the attached call for presenters This conference is for all rehabilitation and education professionals who work with the population of transition-age youth and adults who are blind or low vision. Specific tracks will also be offered for adult VR consumers who are currently participating in rehabilitation training programs. This conference will include: * Keynote presentations each day by leaders in the rehabilitation and education fields. * Workgroups on Structured Discovery Training methods and principles. * Professional think tank work group sessions for VR instructors and administrators * Consumer panels on what works * Seminar style discussion groups for consumers who are receiving residential rehabilitation services. Best, Stacie Dear NFB community members, Our research team, led by Professor Niklas Elmqvist at University of Maryland, College Park, aims to improve information accessibility for blind individuals through design and evaluation of interactive systems that represent data in the form of sound. We are designing an interactive tool to support data analysis using sound. We are interested in insights from Orientation and Mobility (O&M) training that we may effectively use in our design process. We are recruiting blind professional Orientation and Mobility experts as participants in this research. You also need to be 18 years of age or older. We are interested in your instructional background, specifically your training of blind individuals, how blind individuals rely on sound for creating mental maps of the environment, and how blind individuals use auditory interfaces in activities of daily living. The interview will in total take approximately 60 minutes. The entire interview will be audio recorded. No personal data will be collected (other than for tax purposes) and all data will be anonymized. Participants will be paid a $100 Amazon Gift Card for their time and efforts. Greetings fellow Cane travel teachers, I am considering going back to school and thinking about getting certified as a rehabilitation counselor. like most of you, I have a masters degree from Louisiana Tech University and I wondered if any of you could suggest a good school where I could study just for the certification without having to get a whole new masters degree.
