The 2024 Cane Walk
by debandjeff＠allophone.com 10 Feb '24

10 Feb '24

Hello Everyone, It is time again to begin preparing for the 2024 NFB National Convention, and for our annual Cane Walk. There are going to be some changes beginning this year, that I wanted each of you to be aware of, that involve those that will be planning and organizing the event. I am moving toward retirement in approximately a year and a half, if everything goes right, and I want the Cane Walk to continue to be an important part of the convention, and also for the families of Parents of Blind Children Division. This year, Carley Mullen, Michell Gip, and Jimmy Morris will be assisting me with planning and organizing the Cane Walk, along with the very important assistance from Carol Castellano and the members of the Parents' Division. So, please be watching for an e-mail from Michell regarding your opportunity to participate in this year's Cane Walk. I will still be involved in the Cane Walk, although over the next few years, I hope to transition this event over to the next generation of O&M's. Thank you all for your participation over the many years, and I look forward to seeing all of you at the Cane Walk again this year. Sincerely, Jeff Altman MA NOMCT CVRCB

Here is some information: Structured Discovery Cane Travel Approach to Orientation and Mobility Concepts is a collection of skill-building fundamental techniques essential to develop mobility independence for students who are blind or visually impaired. This book dives into transformational mobility concepts followed by a trove of tried-and-true necessary and efficient activities to enhance students? abilities to improve problem-solving skills within natural environments while using a long white cane with a metal tip as the primary mobility tool. Since Structured Discovery Cane Travel is individualized, this activity-based collection may be used to enhance introduction to and/or assistance withon-going education of comprehending complicated concrete and abstract Orientation and Mobility concepts to help achieve independent mobility. NBPCB Recertification Update
by admin＠nbpcb.org 30 Jan '24

30 Jan '24

Dear Structured Discovery Professional, The purpose of this email is to share with you some changes to the recertification program and to provide you with the new documents that you will be using to track your recertification progress. The allowable categories of Continuing Education have been revised to be shorter and clearer. Attached is a document that explains all of the categories of continuing education and the allowable points for each. Tracking your earned continuing education will be done through an excel spreadsheet. The attached CEU Tracking sheet has been simplified so you can enter points as you earn them. You will only submit this document to the NBPCB during the year for which you are applying for recertification; however, this new document may be saved to your computer and you are encouraged to enter your earned points each year so you can continue to track your progress. At the top of this sheet is a listing of the six categories of continuing education that will automatically summarize and add your points as you enter them into the sheet below. In this way, you can monitor your own progress category by category and may seek additional opportunities if you are falling short in any area. Attached here is also a document called CEU tracking sheet directions. This document explains how to use the spreadsheet. We have made it as clear and easy to follow as possible, but if you are new to using excel, we can also offer individual training or do a workshop on how to use it if necessary. Please note: If you are up for recertification in 2024 you will also be receiving these documents direct to your email with additional information specific to you. If you are up in 2024 and have not received this email from our admin, please check your spam or junk folder or contact the office at admin at nbpcb.org <mailto:admin at nbpcb.org> . Please let us know how we may better facilitate your ability to earn, track, and report your efforts towards continuing your professional education and learning.
