National Blindness Professionals Certification Board presents: Contemporary Issues in Rehabilitation and Education For the Blind 21st ANNUAL REHABILITATION AND ORIENTATION AND MOBILITY CONFERENCE New Orleans Marriot 555 Canal Street New Orleans, Louisiana, 70130 Tuesday, July 5th, 2022 8:30 am - 7:00 pm CDT Come and join us! Once again, this year's conference will be action packed with a variety of new speakers, topics, and hands-on events. **For the first time ever, an in-person option and virtual streaming option is available. In-person attendees will have access to the entire conference including general session, breakout sessions, and NBPCB Awards Reception. Virtual streaming attendees will have access to the general session. Separate CEU's will be distributed for general session and breakout session attendees. Presentations and breakouts including: * Hear from employed blind adults about the impact that Structured Discovery education had on their independence and employment. * Learn new strategies that you can implement in your classroom or teaching environment. * See how to cater your teaching for students with secondary disabilities. * Learn where to find new material and secrets to running a dynamic philosophy discussion. * Share ideas and network in multiple rehabilitation disciplines, including Braille, home management, cane travel, and assistive technology. * Come learn about the new National Certification in Access Technology for the Blind (NCATB) More agenda items coming soon. Recertification Process

Dear Certified Professional: In 2021 we made several notable changes to the continuing education and recertification process for Structured Discovery professionals. In particular, Category 1 was reduced to allow only 25 points per recertification period to be counted towards full time teaching of Structured Discovery Category 9 was also changed to require active and ongoing participation in continuing education in the areas of ethics, sexual harassment and related training. Attached to this email are both the continuing education allowable categories as well as the application for recertification process itself. Whether you are set to recertify in 2022 or later, please take this opportunity to review the process and categories so you are prepared for the reporting you must do. 2022 Cane Walk

I am sorry that this message is being sent out so late, but it has been a very busy and challenging year for me so far. In any case, I am asking for your help once again in providing the opportunity for our youngest Federationists, and their families to benefit from your knowledge, skills, and positive philosophy regarding blindness. Please be sure to include this year's Cane walk among your plans for our 2022 Convention. We will again be planning for two sessions, and the Parents' Division will again be sponsoring this event, and inviting families to participate. It has been, what seems like a very long time since we all could be together, and in spite of how hard as we have all worked to bring this sort of experience to others, there is simply nothing like being together with our students. I hope all of you will be able to join with me this year in working with this deserving young people and their families. I also look forward to seeing as many of you as possible, as we all come together for the first time in two years. Details regarding the date, time, and place for the 2022 Cane will be coming soon, and please let me know as soon as possible if you will be able to participate. Also, remember, this time will be counted toward your next NOMC recertification, so it is both a great opportunity to share your professional skills and knowledge, and to help you maintain your certification.
