Dear Colleagues, The linked article that follows appears to represent a barrage of articles currently in circulation amounting to a wholesale legislative assault on the Americans with Disabilities Act. It seems the momentum is on their side unless some of the assertions can be challenged with data based evidence. While I'm the farthest from a researcher, the article made claims that were unsubstantiated or without proper references. I am also unfamiliar with the source so perhaps it lends itself to such bombast but I think it speaks the loudest under the current political climate. The convention will be held November 10-12 in Towson, Maryland, which is just outside of Baltimore. Will any NOMC in the area or who is coming to the Dare To Be Remarkable conference earlier that week be available to stay for our convention-or at least for the day on the tenth, which is when we would like to hold our workshop. As necessary, in partnership with client amend service plan. * Provides adjustment to blindness counseling and guidance for the benefit of clients. * Provides instruction/training using structure discovery model incorporating alternative techniques of blindness/non-visual skills training. * Delivers core service training in the areas of orientation and mobility or travel with long white cane; daily living/home-management; communications to include Braille literacy; leisure; and integration. Where identified as a service need, offer information and make referrals. * Facilitate and document observed and client reported confidence levels, skill gains, control over life advances, and positive attitude or acceptance toward their blindness. * Recommends and prepares service authorizations. * Moves each client in a positive direction to facilitate goal achievement and case closure. * Responsible for client case management including entering information and data from application through case closure using an electronic case management system as well as ensure relevant documents and forms are filed into the client?s paper files. * Responsible to manage large case load within assigned service region(s). * Ability to travel extensively statewide and to stay overnight two to three times per work week to ensure effective service delivery. * Ability to ambulate from place to place, standing, reaching, critical thinking, stooping, bending, lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs. * Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather. * Ability to learn concepts and apply what has been learned. * Demonstrates independent living assistive technology, adaptive devices, aids, and equipment. * Use sound judgement, and works with a high level of integrity and ethics. * Ability to work autonomously and in a team setting. Most of you may not qualify for the survey itself as you don't work at a university, but the questions are quite interesting. If nothing else, please read the solicitation email below. Dear Participant: It is our pleasure to invite you to participate in our research called "Survey of University Faculty Training Orientation and Mobility Specialists Concerning What Accommodations, Teaching Strategies, and Resources are Used for Students Who are Blind Taking Blindfold Cane Courses". The purpose of the proposed study is to survey faculty of personnel preparation programs training O&M specialists concerning the identification of accommodations, teaching techniques and resources needed to teach students who are blind and enrolled in blindfold cane courses. As a faculty member teaching blindfold cane courses, you are invited to participate in this research. If you have other O&M specialists teach your blindfold courses please distribute this survey URL to them. If you agree to participate, please go to the URL https://educttu.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4UaDwIYudYftheB to complete an online survey. In this survey you will be asked to provide some basic demographic information (e.g., length of teaching, education). In addition, you are requested to provide information concerning the format of the cane class, the accommodations, teaching techniques and resources provided to students who are blind. We will not be able to identify you individually.
