We have a two TVIs retiring and have only had ONE applicant! Do you have any teachers graduating the program this year who would be interested in living in WONDERFUL southern Oregon? National Federation of the Blind Jernigan Institute DARE TO BE REMARKABLE: Ten Years of Progress! Call for Presentations A three-day national training conference for education and rehabilitation professionals who work with blind transition-aged students or adults. Location National Federation of the Blind Jernigan Institute 200 East Wells Street at Jernigan Place Baltimore, Maryland 21230 Date Monday, November 6 through Wednesday, November 8, 2017 Call for Presentations We would like to invite you to submit a proposal to present at this conference during one of the concurrent breakout sessions which will be scheduled on the afternoon of November 6, 7, and 8. Abstracts should be submitted on one of the following conference themes or another closely related track: * Structured Discovery methods and principles across the lifespan. * agency-wide philosophy and culture on blindness. * Educational technologies, policies, and practices for teachers of blind students. * Rehabilitation methods, principles, and policies that effect instructors and administrators. * Teaching techniques in core subject areas (Cane Travel, Braille, etc.). * Successful transition from education to rehabilitation. * Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) strategies and programs. Proposals should include: * Title of Presentation * Name and contact information for lead presenter * Name and contact information of additional presenters (If any). * Indicate whether you are willing to repeat the presentation. * AV requirements (note: you may be required to provide your own equipment) * Abstract that includes a description of the workshop and what participants will learn. Ideal Ratio of Mobility Instructors to Agency Clients

Hi everybody, A colleague asked me if there is an ideal ratio of mobility instructors to agency clients in a state agency serving the blind. I gave an answer about operational needs but did not have numbers to offer. Have any of our people ever come up with an ideal number ratio, such as 150 clients to 1 mobility instructor? It doesn?t necessarily say anything about who is accessing the mobility services but rather the human resource potential that the state agency has to provide these services. I don't know what supports may be available to you, but he is attempting to provide skills training and other supports to blind children and young adults in Ecuador, and he asked that I share this message from Facebook with all of you. <https://m.facebook.com/jim.paradiso.98?refid=12> Jim Paradiso What I am looking for somebody who has experience working with adults and children, who is capable of mobility training also is experienced in braille and technology. It would be a great if the had some knowledge of administration and fundraising in Spanish is a big plusI am currently in the city of Loja which is considered the Preforming arts capital of Ecuador. Also I am 45 minutes from vilcabumba which is the valley of longevity were people live well into the 100s. The climate here during the day the high of about 78 at night it gets into the low 50s.
