Inquiry regarding state operated residential training facilities
To: individuals employed by state operated blindness training residential facilities Does your Agency requires that a nurse be present at all times students are in training? Does your agency policy dictates that in the event of a nursing staff shortage students are to discontinue Training until satisfactory Staff levels of certified nurses be restored? I want to center like that but it was all the way back in 1986 and it was a private center anyway. Not sure how relevant information would be today. I worked at a state agency center, make that two of them, and we had no such policy. Hi, Lerone, At the New Mexico Commission for the Blind Orientation center, we are not a medical facility and there are no medical or health professionals on staff. Students are permitted to keep their medications and use them without supervision. Consumers who are unable to administer their own medications are not admitted to the Orientation center. Students who use sharps are required to have a safe method for disposing of sharps. I would be happy to share our admissions documentation with you if you feel that it would be helpful. Hi Larone, Here in Utah are state run adult residential rehabilitation program does not require medical staff of any kind to be present to run the program. I am unaware if there ever were nurses on staff, just a psychologist that I am aware of at one point. When I first started working in Virginia back in 2008, there were two nurses on staff, then to one only a few years layer. I cannot recall ever closing the training center are not hosting classes when that staff was not present. By the time I left in May 2015, there were no longer any nurses on staff and I don?t think there was ever an intention to replace them. Good luck, Jennifer Jennifer M. I did my internship at the assessment and training center in Boise, Idaho. There were no medical staff in the building, and no medical staff were required to be there in order for students to receive training.
