This point in planning the Cane WAlk
Hello Everyone, Right now the plan for the Cane Walk is still subject to adjustments, but some basic things have been established. The families will need to register within the next couple of weeks, and we are hoping it can be sooner to insure that those needing canes can receive them in time. We will match each of you that are participating with one, or possibly two families as needed. Also, if you have worked with a child in the past, and want to continue that relationship, please let me know. If at all possible, once you have received your family's contact information, please make contact, so that the process can begin. Some of these families will need your assistance in fitting their child, and themselves with a proper length cane. I have told Melissa and the others involved with the Parents that we normaly measure children under the age of ten to the middle of the forehead, to insure they have the necessary reach given their difficulty with maintaining proper hand positioning. If any of you that work with this age range have a different oppinion, please let me know so I can have this adjusted in future materials. Each of us can arrange for time slots that will work for you and the family you are working with. Melissa is suggesting that during the convention there is a discussion with the parents, not necessarily directly in conjuction with the times we are working with the families. Your feedback on this plan is welcomed and please feel free to e-mail me at debbandjeff at allophone.com Thank you, Jeff
