The Iowa Commission for the Blind is seeking applications for the position
of Director of the Iowa Department for the Blind.
The incumbent functions as the director of the Department for the Blind, an
executive branch agency of Iowa state government. The director heads the
state agency providing services to blind persons. These services include
vocational and independent living rehabilitation, adult orientation center
training, the business enterprises program, and library services for the
blind and physically disabled. The director is exempt from the merit
employment system of Iowa state government and serves at the pleasure of the
commission, which seeks applicants with a positive philosophy of blindness,
high expectations of blind persons, and commitment to providing an array of
services which includes rehabilitation that leads to work and other services
empowering blind persons to discover and maintain self-reliant independence.
It is the policy of the Department for the Blind to conduct background
checks on all finalist candidates prior to any offer of employment.
*Minimum Qualification Requirements: This is a non-merit position.
Candidates must have graduated from an accredited four-year college or
university and have at least five years' experience in management level
work.
Salary Range: $63,690 - $97,460 annually, plus comprehensive benefit
package.
