He is a 1999 Louisiana Tech University graduate with a master's degree in Educational Psychology with a concentration in Orientation and Mobility. For over 24 years, he has owned and operated 2 businesses including R.B. Vending and Cane Enable which provides O&M training and other critical services to blind individuals. A passionate advocate for the blind community, Ron has been an active member of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) for more than 40 years. He has served in leadership roles within the organization, including as the Immediate Past 2nd Vice President of the NFB and the Immediate Past President of the NFB of Indiana. Outside of his professional and advocacy work, Ron enjoys a fulfilling personal life. He has been married to his wonderful wife, Jean, for 37 years, and together they are the proud parents of two daughters and six grandchildren. Family plays a central role in his life, and he cherishes the time spent with loved ones. Details: This presentation will explore the nuts and bolts of independent contracting as a service-delivery model for orientation and mobility. The presenter will discuss such topics as "Is contracting right for me as a practitioner?", instructional strategies in the field, and independent contracting versus center-based training. * How to determine if independent contracting is a good fit for an instructor. * How structured discovery learning can be an effective strategy in independent contracting. * Pros and cons of contracting versus working in a center environment. Intended Audience: All O&M practitioners including current independent contractors or those considering this delivery model All who are interested are welcome to attend.
