Greetings all, I am sure I will have more thoughts to share after thinking about this, but I'd thought I'd share my knee jerk reaction to this email. I think we can do some instruction as you said over the phone and give reminders to beginners of drills they can do for technique. An example would be taking a couple of steps back from a doorway and make sure that tip touches both side and the frame or close to it to work on width of cane arc. I am also thinking maybe rubber gloves or something would not be a bad idea at all when it comes to hand over hand instruction. This as i said are just my initial thoughts. After thinking and reading responses, I may weigh in again, but that's what I have right now. Sent from my iPhone

Hello everyone,
I hope you are all safe and healthy during this time. As we are all making new procedures and protocols to protect ourselves and our students against COVID-19, I wanted to reach out to the NOMC community to see what each of you are doing during this time. Many things are moving to online instruction however I don?t know how successful that will be for cane travel since many things have to deal with being out in the public and/or hand over hand instruction. Although there are some theoretical concepts that can be covered over the phone or online, that is limited to short term instruction. Although NOMCs have always strongly believed in in-person instruction, we need to acknowledge the current health climate. For theses reasons, I am reaching out to NOMC community to help us all brainstorm. Please respond with thoughtful and helpful ideas. There is already a lot of hysteria out there so I am only looking for constructive solutions at this time.
All the best,
Joanne Gabias
